Quiet Waters
Taking a short break from painting cityscapes. It was very nice to not have to check every line against a vanishing point. Consequently, I was able to let my brush go a little free-er than I normally could, resulting in more abstraction.
When I was at my framer's this morning, I saw a beautiful moulding which I thought would be perfect for a tonal landscape like this, so I'm having one made in this size. I can't wait to try it on this baby~

You've 'nailed' this one! I really like the calm atmospheric feel and the receding into the mist. Very peaceful and deserves the best frame.
This is BEAUTIFUL! I also love the one from yesterday. Congrats on the award - you totally deserve it!
Terry I would love to know what's on your palette for a piece such as this. It does have a beautiful atmosphere to it.
A nice piece Terry. I hope you share the frame with us.
Thanks Carolann, Sarah, Sally, and Thomas~
Sally, the colors on my palette don't change from painting to painting. Right now, I have three of each of the primaries (warm, cool, low chroma) and white.
Blues: Ultramarine, Prussian, Ivory Black
Reds: Permanent Red, Alizarin, Transparent Earth Red
Yellows: Cad Lemon, a warm yellow (mix of Cad Lem+Transparent Earth Red, and Yellow Ochre)
If you'd like, I can go a little more in depth about what makes a painting like this work, in terms of color and value structure. It's not a formula, but the structure is not that complicated.
Yes, do go into more depth about it Terry. :)
Beautiful, calming work.
thanks for that information Terry. I appreciate it very much. Yes i'd love to hear what you have to say 'a little more in depth' when you have the time.
