The Quiet Side, 20 x 20 inches, oil on linen
Another Paris painting. The Luxembourg Gardens have been painted by many, many artists. Sargent's twilight painting comes to mind.
This view is not the celebrated "pond side", where children push sailboats with sticks. I've painted a few of those in the past unsuccessfully. This is the back side, where there are relatively few visitors. I just happened to enter the grounds from the backside because I didn't know where I was, and saw the diagonal cast shadows on the building and thought, "hey! there's a painting!" And here it is.

Terry,
Very nice. I was on that side as well and snapped a couple of pics. What time of day was it, do you remember? I was there in July, late in the afternoon. That's what this looks like to me. It really does take me there.
I'm looking forward to your show at the Knowlton, and also in San Francisco. Michael and I will be in town on the 10th and 11th and will try to stop by.
I'm looking forward to "trying" to paint some of the Paris paintings in my head, but am still working through some Provence paintings first. I want to get a good group of them put together. But your paintings are an inspiration, thank you. Randy
Randy, It must have been in the afternoon, in February. It actually snowed while we were there, as if Paris isn't magical enough already!
Looking forward to seeing some more French paintings on your blog~
Dear Terry,
This is another wonderful painting. I love the colours, they evoke a lovely afternoon atmospher to cimpliment the diagonal shadow. I also like how you have just excluded the top of the tower. Is it meant to ensure that the viewer's attention is not driven out of the painting by the tip of the tower? y best wishes for your show.
Vinayak
thanks vinayak! The roof is actually not pointy, but yes, I cropped it to maintain focus on more interesting parts :-)
