Archangel Michael

Arcangelo, 24 x 20, oil on linen

This is a painting that I did recently of Archangel Michael. The original sculpture was created by Flemish sculptor and architect Peter von Verschaffelt in the 18th century, and it stands outside Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome.

Peter did the hard part. I just painted it.

  1. I know this sculpture of "San Michele Arcangelo" in Rome. Beautiful painting! Ciao from Italy.

Stunning Terri, evokes a very emotional response. I now need to see this sculpture! May I ask about your palette for this?

  3. Thanks Graziano! Yes it's a famous sculpture - took my breath away when I first saw it!

  4. Thanks Shelley!

I used a limited palette; White, Yellow Ochre, Ivory Black, and Transparent Red Oxide. A tiny bit of Ultramarine got in there at an earlier stage.

  5. Very, very good! The bonus is no fidgeting!
