Hey you East Coast people! I want to let you know that in September, I will be in a group show at Anne Irwin Gallery in Atlanta!
The show opens on Friday, September 14th, and I will be showing along with some names you'll surely recognize; Dan McCaw, Danny McCaw, John McCaw, Ken Auster, Dana Hooper, William Wray, and yours truly.
This is a group show of California artists, aptly titled California Dreamin'. It is going to be a really great show, so if you are in the area, I hope you can come to the opening. I will be traveling to Atlanta to attend, so if you stop by, be sure to say Hi~ Would love to meet you!
Also, that same weekend (September 14 - 16), I will be conducting a three-day workshop at The Art School in Sandy Springs. It will be a plein air painting workshop, and I'll be talking about –among other things– simplifying and organizing the visual information to successfully translate what we see into a good painting. Much of the frustration of painting the landscape comes from not knowing why something works and others don't, in a given situation. If we can understand the logic behind the decision making process, we can make intelligent, intentional, and purposeful choices. My emphasis as an instructor is to give you the reasons behind each decision we make, so that you may start thinking in those terms. If your decisions make clear sense, you won't be floundering.
And to sweeten the deal, my 80 page, full-color, fully illustrated book En Plein Air - Painting Wisdom I've Collected the Hard Way (So You Don't Have To!) is included in the price of the workshop! This book is a companion to my workshop, and is not available for purchase on its own. Sorry~
September 14 - 16 (Fri - Sun)
You can get more info and register through the School's website. I think there's just a couple of spots left, so hurry!
Hope to see you in Atlanta!
